We all know Akshay Kumar is also known as ‘Khiladi Kumar’. The reason behind this is the success of his 1992 film Khiladi directed by the duo Abbas-Mustan. The film also stars Ayesha Jhulka, Deepak Tijori, Prem Chopra, Anant Mahadevan, Johnny Lever and Shakti Kapoor. Jatin-Lalit composed the muci for the film. Khiladi was among the 5 ‘most sold music album of 1992’. The movie revolves around a murder of a girl and how the trio tries to escape from being framed for the murder and the murderer.
Khiladi was the first in the series of unrelated films which had Khiladi in the title and Akshay Kumar in the leading role: Main Khiladi Tu Anari in 1994, Sabse Bada Khiladi in 1995, Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi in 1996, Mr. and Mrs. Khiladi in 1997, International Khiladi in 1999, Khiladi 420 in 2000 and Khiladi 786 in 2012. Abbas-Mustan is the duo famous for directing thriller films like Shah Rukh Khan starrer Baazigar, Soldier, Ajnabee, Baadshah, Aitraaz, Humraaz, 36 China Town, Race and Race 2.
As Khiladi turns 28, Abba-Mustan took to twitter to share a throwback picture with Akshay Kumar. Akshay kumar replied to the tweet saying, “How can I forget Abbas Mustan bhai…it’s not just a film for me but a stepping stone in my career, a title which is now synonymous with me. Thank you for giving me #Khiladi 🙏🏻” (sic).
