Jayam Ravi made his debut with Jayam directed by his brother Mohan Raja starring Sada, Gopichand, Rajeev, Nizhagal Ravi, Ramesh Kanna, Mayilsamy, Manobala and many more. The success of the film prompted the title to become a prefix to his stage name, and he continued to collaborate with his brother for other films including M. Kumaran S/O Mahalakshmi, Unakkum Enakkum, Santhosh Subramaniam, Thillalangadi and Thani Oruvan.
He did films in different genres like Peranmai, Romeo Juliet, Miruthan, Bogan, Vanamagan, Tik Tik Tik, Adangamaru, Comali and Bhoomi and Ponniyin Selvan in the making.Pnniyin Selvan is Mani Ratnam’s dream project also starring Vikram, Karthi, Vikram Prabhu, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Shobita Dhulipala, Aditi Rao Hydari, Jayaram, Sarathkumar, Prabhu, Kishore, Riyaz Khan, Lal, Rahman, Mohan Raman, Ashwin Kakumanu and Arjun Chidambaram.
